Sarah Dvorak’s dream of owning her own food business came true May 17 when San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee was on hand to help in a ribbon-cutting event officially opening Mission Cheese a small business specializing in artisan domestic cheeses. In the process of changing from a Gap employee involved with merchant sales and inventories to a small business owner Dvorak utilized the services of the San Francisco Small Business Develop-ment Center (SBDC) and took a number of small business classes at SBA’s Entrepreneur Center. Dvorak also used a $25000 microloan from TMC Development Working Solutions to purchase refrigera-tion equipment an oven and make improvements to her leased space on Valencia Street. Working Solutions is an SBA Microloan Intermediary.

“The San Francisco SBDC was very helpful and helped me clear away the confusion of how to start my business” said Dvorak a native of Wisconsin who attended a culinary school in New York. “After taking some SBA classes and getting help with my business plan the SBDC also assisted with financing options.”

One of those options led Dvorak to Working Solutions. “Sarah’s a perfect example of a hardworking entrepreneur and we were glad to help with her funding needs” said Emily Glasner executive di-rector of TMC Development Working Solutions.

Mission Cheese is located at 736 Valencia Street in San Francisco and open daily 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. (closed Mondays).
