\nChunru had nearly\u00a0<\/span>three decades of experience<\/span><\/a>\u00a0as a preschool teacher before launching Joyful Alameda in March 2022.\u00a0She\u2019s\u00a0also\u00a0attained\u00a0multiple certifications, including\u00a0as a certified Montessori teacher and\u00a0Infant\/Toddler Specialist certification in Child Development.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

She\u00a0explains,\u00a0\u201cChildren are naturally curious about everything around them, indoors and outside, and when we foster and support their interests, it makes learning more fun.\u201d\u00a0That\u2019s\u00a0true, she says, whether\u00a0they\u2019re\u00a0learning language lessons, playing games outside, or mastering early-life skills, from tying shoelaces to sharing toys.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Before\u00a0purchasing\u00a0property\u00a0for Joyful Alameda,\u00a0Chunru\u00a0leased a space in a house that was approved for daycare use.\u00a0She\u00a0was limited, though,\u00a0in the improvements she could make inside, and she\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0have space\u00a0outside\u00a0for a playground area, games, and exploration of nature\u00a0\u2013 and, significantly, working out of a house limited the\u00a0licensing that she could obtain.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great to get my business launched there,\u201d\u00a0Chunru\u00a0says, \u201cbut\u00a0our capacity\u00a0was limited by its size\u00a0and because I couldn\u2019t get\u00a0the type of\u00a0license that I wanted for\u00a0our program, we were also limited in our branding and professional perception.\u201d<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

It didn\u2019t take Chunru long to find the right location \u2013 a single-story building that was almost 1,500 square feet with a large yard for outdoor play. The next step was to find financing.<\/span><\/p>\n
